What happened?

Currently, when a pressure plate is right clicked, it works like a button

What should happen:

The pressure plate should ignore a player right clicking, as its a pressure plate and NOT a button

Steps to reproduce

  1. Place any pressure plate next to a redstone component
  2. right click the pressure plate
  3. verify it emits a signal

I was requested to add this feature some time ago: MineClone2/MineClone2#3033 (comment)

I guess I like the idea of having pressure plates not clickable since buttons already exist.

So is this a bug or not? What does Minecraft do?

I think it is a bug. I think it was suggested that it was how MC did it, but it was a mistake. I don't think it really matters either way if it's fixed or not as it's low impact. Any resolution is fine.

That one was 100% my mistake. If you scan down some in #3033, you'll see where I figured out that I was wrong and went to correct it.

In MC, pressure plates are not right-clickable. I don't remember the specifics, but when I had got it to do it, it did work, but when I went to retest it to make sure that I was right, it didn't work, and I was wrong. 🤷‍♂️

So, it's a technical bug... or a "feature" -- your choice as to how you see it.

I will say this, in the schema of things, it's not a huge deal. The only thing I could see it interfering with, is if the pressure plate is used for a trap, then the player would not be on top of that node when the trap was sprung.

I can see it having positive uses, however. (Like in testing redstone designs.)
