New villagers and trades #3

It would be nice to have new structures in the game, and it would be great to be able build your own with special blocks. However, some blocks would make no sense to craft in a 3x3 grid, especially art. So I thought villagers could trade them for emeralds + materials. :)

Here are some decorations on the temple/pyramid of the Feathered Serpent:
Temple of the Feathered Serpent

or an Aztec carved stone:

or these guard lions in front of a Chinese temple:

The building blocks and decorations for these special buildings could be provided by special villagers.

Carpenter: wooden blocks (structural/building)
Sculptor: wooden carvings (decorative items/statues)
Stonecrafter: stone-like blocks (structural/building and decorations)
Metalsmith: metal-based blocks and items (structural, decorative, maybe functional)
Potter: clay and terracotta vessels
Electrician: light blocks (#2)

Their trades should be based on the biomes they were born in, so you can get varieties of decorations and for the player to have a very good reason to visit all biomes and maybe get villagers from there.

The above images are just samples to get the ideas rolling. The thought process is that we have quite a few biomes and we could use each one for trades that would enable the player to make different constructions.

So we would first have to think about what kind of special buildings we'd like to have. That will dictate the outside and inside materials that we would need, then assign those to villagers in the biomes that match the best those trades. It won't be easy, as there can be plenty of ideas and not all would fit a certain biome, but the variety in materials is the main point.

Below are some examples of materials and items from the Carpenter. And if in some cases we can't come up with at least 5 thematic blocks/items for each carpenter, we can add new bed types - maybe ones that villagers can't even claim.

  • jungle carpenter (wood totems built from multiple 1-block items):
    wood totem

  • desert carpenter: maybe indoor furniture and wall decorations for pyramids

  • dark forest carpenter: rustic log cabin furniture

  • plains carpenter: picket fences (emeralds + any wood, gives picket fences of given wood), rocking armchairs for porches, mailbox, hanging flower pots
porch with rocking chairs and hanging flower pots

  • taiga carpenter: fences made of spaced cut logs (same as above, output based on given wood), rustic doors of same style bug in different wood
    cabin fences made from logs

... and so on.

For a metalsmith, take the taiga image above and see that metal chimney. It could be both decorative and functional, in the sense that placing it above a campfire it could output smoke at the top. :) And to integrate it in the roof, we could make "blocks with chimney". Maybe... not sure it's a great idea if it would be complicated. It would definitely be...

Well, we do have a stone cutter villager (or should)... so that would be the Stone Crafter.

That's the mason and we should keep those trades intact, so people can rely on them.

So, what kind of trade block would you envision for them, Nicu? The stone crafter?

Some rough ideas:

Villager Job site block
Carpenter wooden cabinet + drawers, vise/vice on a side; on top: dovetail/back saw and hammer
Electrician metallic cabinet + drawers; on top: pliers, wires and screwdrivers
Metalsmith wooden block with hammers and chisels of different sizes on sides
Potter pottery wheel
Sculptor stone-like block with aesthetic decorations on sides; on top: hammer + chisels
Stonecrafter stone-like block with rough outlines; on top: sledgehammer and big point chisel

Copper can be made into wire, for the electrician's trades.
