Were all familiar with cobble generators. You put some flowing lava on one side and flowing water on the other and boom, cobblestone. Well, heres an idea. How about an advanced cobblestone generator that makes use of bedrock to produce more advanced stones.

Have the lava-water cobble gen detect if theres bedrock on the bottom before it makes the cobble, if there is then the generator has an equal chance of producing deepslate, andersite, diorite, or granite instead of regular cobble.

As for a practical purpose to this, #3486 makes a good point that since they're using an older world its impossible to find naturally generating deepslate. This kind of generator would add accessibility to the new block for those playing on older worlds through legitimate gameplay means.

Also, if we ever manage to get an automation or tech mod ported/made for mineclone2 that has a kind of block-breaker machine, this would be a great way to automate the more advanced stones without having to quarry mine them.

As I said in the other issue, deepslate is possible to obtain by going to unexplored chunks. But assuming the whole world was explored, it is indeed impossible to get it in old worlds.

Granite, diorite and andesite, though, are renewable. It can be cumbersome to get loads of, if you don't have a solid gold farm, but when you do, it's fairly straightforward.

gold ingots =(piglin bartering)=> nether quartz
2 cobblestone + 2 nether quartz => 2 diorite
diorite + nether quartz => granite
diorite + cobblestone => andesite

So with a gold farm and a cobblestone generator, you're set. For older worlds, with mc2+, we could make this generator give you the non-renewable items: cobbled deepslate, calcite, tuff, etc.

And when we introduce the wandering trader, we could give it (in mc2+) trades for amethyst items, and maybe others, to not make this generator "overpowered". :P

I never knew you could craft diorite, granite, and andersite. Mind = blown! Thats a great point then.

Yes! I like this idea. Would blackstone (the nether one) also count as a non-renewable?

Perhaps we could make an underground variant of the wandering trader that specializes in amethyst/rare stones/rare ore blocks, call it the wandering miner? Just an idea!

We get plenty of blackstone from piglin bartering, so that's covered as well.

I love the idea, although when I think about our mobs' pathfinding, I can easily see it bathing in lava for 1 full second, then "poof!" :)) Besides, do we want to "force" the players to stay for long periods underground just to wait for a wandering miner to spawn? It's pretty specific - and impossible to come by for players who decide to make sky bases.

I really like the idea of a new wandering trader in the Nether, or underground in caverns. I think that both would be pretty cool.

It would be viable for all of the mapgens except the floatlands one. And, if the "wandering miner" shows up in the nether too, that would solve it. Players would have a way to access it, even with sky bases and floatlands.

Also, I don't think that they would have to wait long periods, I think that they would just randomly come across them. Though, having it pop up in the nether too, would solve that aspect, as most players like to create bases in the nether to house fun machinery.

Sure sure, I guess, but unless you're hanging around lava pools without guard rails (someone call OSHA!) all the time that shouldn't happen too often. They should stop when you try to trade, just box em in to a cobble jail cell. Our mobs have a jumping issue to begin with so that helps.

  1. A survival player will spend considerable amount of time underground anyways especially early gamew when searching for diamond.

  2. Players who decide to make sky bases will still need to come down for resources at some point ;)

OOh I like the idea of a wandering nether trader, perhaps it could look like a unique colored piglin and occasionally sell ancient debris and rarer nether goods like blaze rods, ghast tears and nether wart?

I like that, though most of those should be really expensive. (Like, both gold and emeralds.) Not impossibly so, just... yeah. And, there should be a cap for amount to sell.
I mean, aside from exploring enough to find 2 bastion remnants in MC, I have found 2 ancient debris, and of that -- I just made my first ingot of netherite.

Of what you mentioned, Netherwart would be the cheapest... I'd also toss in the crimson and warped fungi, the blocks, etc.
